Dual lane highways are few and far between. Tasmania is abundant with lovely country drives which is all part of the charm. This does mean winds and bends and limited overtaking on single lane roads. Allow plenty of time to take in the scenery and arrive at your destination safely. Tasmania is abundant with wildlife and it is common to see a wallaby, wombat or echidna along the side of the road, even in daytime. Watch out for wildlife especially at night/dusk and dawn.
The temperature and weather conditions can change rapidly in ALL SEASONS. Always be prepared with layers and have a good jacket on hand. If you are heading into the amazing national parks and wilderness be prepared with rainproof gear, thermal layers, waterproof hiking/walking boots, hat, sunscreen and water. It is not uncommon to get cold days in summer, especially in certain locations.
